Spelling Bee Rules and Guidelines

One grade will come at a time.  The six contestants will be given all the same word.  If a contestant wants a sentence, he/she must raise their hand and ask for a sentence.  Each contestant will be given a maximum of 20 seconds to write the word after the word has been given.  When time is called the pencil must be put down.  The contestant must write the word correctly in order to advance to the next round.  The word must be legible to the judge.  If there is any question to the letter written, the contestant will be disqualified.  You may not start over.  If a homonym is given during the competition, a definition will be provided as well.  If inadvertently no definition is given, the correct spelling of either word will be accepted.  Once the contestant has been given the definition of a homonym, or the word has been used in a sentence, the word defined or used in the sentence must be the one spelled.
